Who are we?
OurFamilyHistory.club is a small, independent, non-commercial and privately run family history site.
Our Purpose
Our purpose is to document and publish online the ancestry of the families shown on our home page by researching and recording as much as we can of the life of individuals and to share that information with family members. We also publish the data of our ancestors to benefit other family history researchers and in the hope that they may contact us with more information about them.
In this way we hope to create a legacy to pass on to our descendants.
Transparency
We aim to be transparent in the way we process your personal information and that of living family members. If you have concerns or questions that aren’t addressed elsewhere in this document, please use the Contact form in the page footer to let us know.
Privacy
The EU GDPR and Data Privacy regulations are interpreted by many genealogy sites as referring exclusively to the relationship between the site’s data controller and the people registered to use their site. That much is true, and our site’s data privacy arrangements meet those needs.
There is another, much larger, group of data subjects – the living people in our family tree. Our Privacy Statement cares for them too.
A family tree would be severely diminished if it did not include the latest generations, so this site contains details of living people, most of whom are resident in the EU. Their details are not displayed to people who access the site anonymously, and login is only available to family members who subscribe and are manually approved by the site administrator.
The web hosting administrator (Uniquely Yours Web Hosting) has access for administrative purposes as does the support team for the TNG software. We regard these as trusted resources who also work to robust data security and privacy policies.
With regard to your personal information you can:
Personal information of living family members
If you want to see, edit or delete information in the family tree that relates to your family’s living members, the most effective way is to submit a subscription request (see link on right), after which you will be able to access and edit/delete the records yourself.
If you would prefer not to have to edit the data yourself we can provide you with a guest login that will let you view the information we hold. If you are unhappy about any aspect of it you can use the Contact form (see page footer) to tell us about it.
Cookies
This website uses cookies. Cookies do not harm your computer and do not contain viruses. They are small text files that are stored on your computer by your browser and perform important functions in the operation of this site.
Most of the cookies we use are “session cookies”. They are automatically deleted when you close your browser. Other cookies remain stored on your device until you delete them. These cookies allow us to recognize your browser the next time you visit and restore some of your preferences (such as your preferred language).
You can configure your browser settings so that you are informed about the setting of cookies and allow cookies only in certain cases. Disabling cookies will limit the functionality of this website.
What happens when you block cookies
The two most visible outcomes from blocking cookies are:
- You will be unable to login successfully because your login details are normally stored in a cookie. You will be treated as an anonymous browser and access to the records of living people will be denied.
- The GDPR cookie consent and privacy preferences footer bar will appear on every page you visit because your GDPR consent status would normally be stored in some of the blocked cookies. On every page you will be treated as a new visitor, and Agreeing or Dismissing the cookie consent bar will have no effect.
The table at the foot of this page provides more information about some of the cookies we use.
Contact form
If you send us enquiries via the contact form, the personal details and the enquiry will be stored in order to process the request and in case of follow-up questions. We will not share this data with third parties.
Comment Form
If you are logged in when you leave a comment, it will be associated with your user account. If you request details of all information held about you, comments that you have left will be included.
Advertising
This site is privately funded and uses no commercial advertising which means your personal data is not shared with any advertisers.
Analytics
We don’t perform any site analytics.
Changes to this Statement
Changes to this statement will be notified to you by the reappearance of the consent prompt when you next visit the site, at which point your renewed consent will be necessary.
