    Census:
    This person, George Bristow, is recorded as the son of Benjamin Bristow but the 1851 census has a George Bristow as the son of Stephen Bristow. That could be a coincidence except that both these Georges were born in the same year, were blind and were basket makers.

    It HAS to be the same person. But to which family does he belong? The only documentary evidence we have so far is the 1851 census that places him under Stephen.

    It's worth taking a look at the 1871 Census transcription. George's Servant/Housekeeper has her children with her. Now it's not unusual for a widowed man to take on a housekeeper but he would be a generous one that allowed two young children to accompany her and, presumably, picked up their living costs.     Here we have more evidence of a life of hard work. At 77 Benjamin is still working, as an Undertaker's Coachman. Assuming that all he did was drive the coach, this is possibly not so physically demanding as an Agricultural Labourer, although with the busiest time of an Undertaker's year being winter, driving a coach in all weathers cannot have been much fun.

    Just under two years after the 1911 Census Benjamin is dead. No retirement for him

    On the 1901 census found the most likely candidate for our William. married to a Florence with 4 children Walter b 1893, Frank 1894,Charlotte 1895, Marcella 1899.

    According to a marriage reference found, William married a Florence Rosier in 1891. When checking the children's births the mother's family name doesn't tally.

    I am loath to add the documentation as it might be incorrect.

    Notes:

    After sharing a few emails with Deboroh Fracaro from Australia, between us we have a little more knowledge about Alfred but there still remain some unanswered questions.
    Alfred's wife, Florence, was Deborah's great grandmother, this association not through Alfred but Florence's second marriage. It is uncertain whether Alfred and Florence divorced or if Alfred died before her second marriage.
    Alfred travelled a lot and Florence had no idea of his whereabouts.
    Dad's notes describe Alfred as a mystery man with a mercurial temperament imbibed with his father's (Harry) wandering spirit. He was heard of from time to time in such places as Fiji, South Africa and Rhodesia. In 1967 when dad wrote these notes it was not known where he was or when he had died.
    Have found a few possible travel links.
    At this stage it is uncertain that Gordon is his child with Florence, awaiting certificate.
